The market for unit trusts is largely untapped and the potential is immense. For example, unit trust funds only account for 10.95%* of the Bursa Malaysia's market capitalisation, while in developed countries such as US, the percentage is as high as about 40%. Additionally, there is a large pool of EPF funds eligible for unit trust investment. There is also RM351 billion** in fixed deposits and savings accounts, part of which could be channelled into unit trusts. Compared to 138,522*** registered insurance agents, there are only 23,855* registered unit trust agents in the country.
Unit trusts are a sunrise business. The industry is still in its infancy and growth potential is tremendous. Only those willing to tread new grounds and blaze a trail will reap substantial rewards.
